Coach Linton: When I started playing Cricket from the young age of 3, I realised Cricket is my passion. From there I went from strength to strength and ended up playing First Team Cricket at the age of 14. One of the most memorable moments in my short-lived career was playing alongside my Father, Derrick Phillips. We opened the batting together and I was captained to victory by him at the tender age of 14. My Dad has always been my inspiration in my career. I was never coached by him but always received priceless advice on and off the field, and still do… I always thought I would be a Professional Cricketer, but due to injury that never happened. When I decided to open the Academy and I realised how fulfilling it is to see a young cricketer improve session after session, I knew this is why… I’m still so involved in the game, just from a different perspective. I am a Qualified Cricket South Africa Coach & Australian Coach and I have had the privilege to train with the South African Team, as well as the Australian Team. 4 years Later and we are growing daily. It is an absolute joy and honour to work with young aspiring cricketers daily and to be part of their growth and development on and off the cricket field.

Coach Pappa: My name is Derrick, affectionately known as Coach Pappa and I am married to Desiree. We have 2 boys, Linton being the eldest. Linton is the cricketer and Lyle, our youngest is the soccer player. I was born into soccer. My family and brothers are keen soccer players. I had the privilege of being exposed to a good cricketer and from there my love for the game grew. I played cricket at the highest level. In 1979, I was awarded a Cricket Scholarship in Derbyshire, England, but due to various reasons, I did not go. As we grew up in a very disadvantaged area, the area of Heideveld on the Cape Flats, I stayed to support my family. In hindsight, I should have gone. Fast forward to today, I love being involved with this game on such a personal level. I love working with the little ones. I am glad to be able to impart some of my knowledge of this gentleman’s game to the promising future stars.

- On Saturday was my first online cricket lesson with Coach Linton and I enjoyed the session. It felt as if coach was right here by me since he could see all my body movements while I was batting and could correct me accordingly. I can’t wait for my next online lesson in the comfort of my backyard. I will definitely recommend this to my team mates and friends.

- The Beginners Cricket Academy is very well organised and all the trainers know all there is to know about cricket. Besides cricket the children are taught good sportsmanship and get all the physical and mental support available. My child enjoyed his time at the Academy and we will always refer children to join. This was my child’s safe space during an emotionally trying time in his life. The coaches helped us pull him through and he is currently in a good space of mind.
